What is the International Baccalaureate?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognised educational framework that develops inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people. Unlike curriculum-based systems, the IB emphasises inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and international-mindedness.
For families who move frequently or plan to attend universities in multiple countries, the IB offers excellent portability. The IB Diploma is highly regarded by universities worldwide, often considered equivalent to or more challenging than A-Levels.
The IB Programme Structure
Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Ages 3-12. The PYP uses transdisciplinary themes to explore learning across subjects. Children develop inquiry skills, conceptual understanding, and the "Learner Profile" attributes like being principled, open-minded, and reflective.
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
Ages 11-16. The MYP continues the inquiry approach across eight subject groups while developing connections between subjects and real-world applications. It concludes with the Personal Project.
IB Diploma Programme (DP)
Ages 16-19. The two-year Diploma requires study of six subjects (three at Higher Level, three at Standard Level), plus three core components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).
